Question: I have a difficult time meditating, the thoughts just never stop!
Reply: Our minds are programmed to think! Do not be disappointed. Just keep focusing on the breath. If a thought comes to you just let it pass by as if on a conveyor belt. Bring your attention back to your breath. The spaces between the thoughts will get longer, the thoughts will get less and less.
Question: I just cannot sit on the floor in a crossed legged position, it's painful and the pain distracts me.
Reply: Try stretching your hip joints and your sides to loosen up the joints and muscles. If you can then sit on the floor crossed legged or in the thunderbolt posture then do so. During the meditation if you feel your leg cramping or 'going to sleep' you can stretch it straight, but do so very slowly and gently so as not to disturb your meditative mode. Also you can sit on a chair. In this case sit at the front of the chair with both feet flat on the floor about hip with distance apart. Keep your back straight.
